BREAKING NEWS:

Lord Neuberger (President of Supreme Court of UK)  read the judgement of the Supreme Court. It was held by 8-3 judges that the UK government cannot trigger Article 50 without an Act of Parliament. MPs need to vote on the BREXIT issue.

Therefore, it follows that the UK government is not able to trigger Article 50 unilaterally under its prerogative powers.

With respect to the devolution issue – firstly, there was no veto available for either Scotland or Northern Ireland and secondly,  UK MPs are not required to consult with these parliaments before triggering Article 50.

More details coming soon.
